Dead Ranch - Birds of Pray (2012)

Dead Ranch is a band hatched out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The shit-stinking basement jampspace, toxic mold spore inhalation/ingestion, strict diet of alcohol/chimichangas, inspired a peculiar sound. A combination of foul noises, and catchy riffs, are trademarks of any Dead Ranch song. [Review] Lords of Bukkake – Desagravio (2013)

Ya estaba empezando a hacerse larga la espera, después de tres años, por fin nos llega el nuevo trabajo de los catalanes Lords of Bukkake. "Desagravio" es el tercero de un power trío que, una vez más, demuestra su peso en la escena de la piel de toro. Lo cierto es que bastante ha llovido desde aquel "Desorden y rencor" pero ya os digo que la espera ha valido la pena.

Algo que llama bastante la atención es que una banda con semejante potencia trabaje con la TotalRust, una discográfica procedente de Israel. Estoy seguro de que en España hay más de un sello dispuesto a invertir capital para mover algo así pero éste hecho da que pensar. Últimamente el panorama está algo tenso y cuesta bastante más sacar un álbum por estos lares pero para poder opinar con más firmeza habría que conocer las condiciones del trío. Aunque se vayan a la china, está muy presente que la cepa es española y que estamos ante unos gigantes nacionales con muchas papeletas para estar en mi top de este 2013. Máximo respeto para los catalanes y a seguir así.

Con "Desagravio" repiten distribución, cuatro tracks de unos diez minutos de media en los que nos encontraremos, a primer contacto, un Sludge casposo y enfermizo con ecos Doom que resuenan en profundidad. Temas como el primer corte "Boca Acida", muy bien definido y lleno de atmósfera y técnica, son una prueba de que esta gente sigue en forma. Tres años que han servido para meditar, dirigir y vomitar un esputo semejante, menuda fábrica de riffazos nos propone nuestro gran amigo Gustavo. Buena sustitución del, también enorme, Jaume Pantaleón. Somos muchos los que pensamos que se le iba a echar en falta pero el Gust ha sabido dar la talla y dejar el listón más que alto.

Cuando los músicos saben lo que están haciendo, se nota y mucho. Un largo lleno de ecos, referencias y ramalazos muy variados que aportan solidez, frescura y cuerpo a las composiciones, tanto es así que cada canción es un mundo en sí misma. Es todo un viaje para aquellos amantes del Sludge/Doom más potente y, aunque no lleve la etiqueta de made in Spain, estamos deseosos de que la repercusión de esta obra sea inmensa a lo largo del año. Un gran referente de las joyas y el talento en bruto que tenemos en el país.

Not even four months after their acclaimed debut album Eagles and Chainsaws, the Muscle Tribe releases their EP "...and Bears" as a logical followup and the missing chapter. Two new songs and a cover of a lovely kid's tune about baking a cake, combined with the fine artwork of band's dear friend Marija Anušić of RussianDoll Illustrations make for a great standalone eight-minute experience as well as combined with the Eagles and Chainsaws album (hence the title), and pretty much show that the musical ground the band has chosen to cover has even more vague limits than you have thought.

Godstopper is a noise rock/sludge band from Toronto, Canada. Godstopper was formed in 2010. Mike Simpson wrote, performed and recorded a demo, later released on cassette, called "Empty Crawlspace". The band then became a performing unit in 2011, and has since toured the US and Canada, performing with acts such as Ehnahre, Tombs, and OXBOW.
